asprey jacques are pleased to announce their first solo show of work by Paul Morrison. Recently, Morrison has gained wide recognition for his distinctive monochrome paintings and wall paintings. Typically, these take the form of highly stylised landscapes which incorporate scaled-up details of flowering plants, ferns and other naturalistic components which range from generic cartoon type features to complex botanically specific renditions of plant architecture. These elements are fused together in Morrison's work resulting in fictional but accurately depicted scenes on to which the viewer can project his or her own associative colour. The exhibition at asprey jacques will include a 360 degree wall painting as well as works on canvas. Born in 1966, Paul Morrison studied at Goldsmiths College of Art, London (graduated from MA in 1998). Following the show 'Surfacing' at the ICA, London, Morrison has exhibited on an international level including The Drawing Center, New York; Birmingham Museum of Art, Alabama; MUHKA, Antwerp and Inverleith House, Edinburgh (1999). Forthcoming shows include 'Colour Me Blind!', Wurttembergischer Kunstverein Stuttgart and the Fogg Museum, Harvard University, Boston. A comprehensive publication on Paul Morrison will be published by Asprey Jacques and Galerie Michael Janssen at the beginning of 2000.
