asprey jacques is pleased to present their first solo show of new work by British artist Alessandro Raho. The exhibition includes Kezzie, a large portrait of a girl dressed in a red trouser suit and Ewan, a portrait of one of Alessandro's friends who continues to be an important subject in his work. In addition to two exquisite pencil on paper drawings, one of which is a self portrait, there will be a series of photographs some of which relate to earlier paintings. Although Raho has always worked with photography, this is the first time he will exhibit photographs as works in themselves. Also on show will be a series of landscape paintings. These nocturne scenes relate to photographs Raho took on the south coast of England as well as one work depicting sunset at Battersea. The landscape paintings represent a major development for Raho but at the same time closely relate to the portraits and photographs. Raho has recently worked with print specialists to produce a limited edition of prints presenting a portrait of his grandmother in a deep blue tracksuit which will be included in the show at asprey jacques.

Born in 1971, Alessandro Raho graduated from Goldsmiths College of Art, London (1994). Since then, he has exhibited on an international level including solo shows at Jay Gorney, New York and Rena Bransten, San Francisco (1996); Taro Nasu, Tokyo (1999 & 2000). Significant group shows include: 'Brilliant', Walker Art Center, Minneapolis (1995); 'Surfacing', ICA, London and 'Dumbpop', Jerwood Space, London (1998) and most recently 'Figuration', Rupertinum, Salzburg (1999).
